Right within the city – Part 2

The cooperative of Zentralwerk dedicates part of its activities to that place’s history as a sub-camp of Flossenbürg concentration camp. Today, Zentralwerk’s role as a main site of Dresden’s remembrance of National-Socialist crimes comes with a problematic function: In a climate of far-right mobilization, it can serve as one site at which the violence of German ultra-nationalism is ‘deposited’. Countering such a removal of the past from today’s events, I wish to contribute from the perspective of radical-democratic architecture and planning to the task of keeping this history present and public.

Part 2 is a workshop in the work-in-progress exhibition “Right within the City” dealing with public demands, contradictions and open questions bearing upon a ‘politics of history’.
